Dog Capture and Stray Dogs

What Not to Do If You Spot a Stray Dog?

If you see a stray dog, you should never take it home. This is the most important rule.

Do not approach it, do not pet it, do not feed it, and do not give it water.

Even if it looks healthy and friendly, it may have some illness that we are unaware of.

A stray dog is in an unfamiliar environment without an owner; it may be scared and aggressive.

It could even bite you.

If you see such a dog, immediately call an adult — your mom or dad — and they can contact the municipal office. A municipal worker will call the dog capture service, which will attempt to capture the dog. Most dogs can be caught easily, often using treats. An exhausted dog is usually glad to see kind people showing interest in it; in cases of exhaustion, capture is a reward, and the dog will willingly submit. The situation becomes significantly more complicated if the dog is in good condition, well-fed, and has had plenty of water. In such cases, you need to approach it carefully, and capturing it becomes more challenging. Precious minutes are wasted while the dog roams freely, and it could be hit by a car.

So now you understand why we should not feed or give water to such a dog, right? 🙂
